2008 Year In Review
This blog started on January 1st, 2008. I figured it would be a good way to end off the year and celebrate the one year anniversary of this blog by taking a look at all the things that went on during my internet journey.
January
- This site started as blog hosted for free on Blogspot, but then I quickly moved it to a new domain and started using Wordpress.
- Had a couple of popular articles starting out, including 6 ways to build backlinks to your site and 7 essential wordpress plugins
February
- Really didn’t do a whole lot this month, apparently. I had one post, one of my old earnings reports, so apparently I made $2.41 then, so at least it wasn’t a complete waste.
March
- Launched BrokeCollegeKid.com , a site built on PHP-Nuke that I kind of regretted how it was turning out, and got quickly dropped.
- Tried a Facebook Experiment where I sent out friend request to 50 random people, just to see what would happen. almost 20 out of 50 ended up accepting.
April
- Another slow month. Well, the exact opposite really, as I had a lot of other things going on it my life, so I couldn’t get a lot of work done online.
May
- I started working for Mbare, which I wrote about in this post. While the job didn’t turn about to be everything I had hoped, It was a still a great experience and I am glad that I got the opportunity to work there.
June
- June was in a 3 way tie with July and January for being my most active month on this blog, each one clocking in at 16 posts a piece.
- It what would turn out to be first of many, I upload a new theme for this site.
- Was going to start trying some PPC/Affiliate marketing, but had some issues with a clickbank product. The “Affiliate Experiment” Got delayed indefinitely.
- Had a couple of popular posts this month, 7 Tips to Supercharge your Adwords CTR and 5 Things To Remember when Designing
July
- FretFeed.com is launched (for the 1st time)
- I previewed the new layout for Athens Bar Hopper, that never actually got launched. The code base was really buggy and scketchy, and I decided it would be better to just scrap it and start over. You can still see the preview here
- I write about shifting the focus of this blog, and start writing more about design, development, and content, and less about marketing.
- Got $20 for writing about Pay-Per-Post. Review Here
- Had a couple more popular articles: Marketing Your Store With Kaboodle and ThisNext and You Got the Bookmark Part, now Get the Social Part.
August
- Starting trying a little Affiliate Marketing on this blog with a post about Hostmonster
- This blog gets yet another makeover. I think this one was a definite improvement and it stuck for a while.
September
- Another slow month. Did write one useful post about Adding Thumbnails to your Wordpress Blog
October
- Started playing around with jQuery for the first time.
- Added the portfolio page to this website
November
- Re-Launched FretFeed, using a custom CSS over the options theme
- Add the hosting resource to this blog, the first of many resources I’m planning to add here.
December
- Started the Adsense Challenge with FretFeed.com, along with a competitor’s site, ArrestedDevelopmentBlog. While neither of us reached our goal of $100, Gio did better with his site, raking in $7.67 compared to my $2.68.
- GlennStovall.com officially became Chromand.com, and got a new look to go along with it.
