Creating a Blogroll to Help You & Your Audience

You may have noticed I’ve adde over twenty links to the sidebar here at Chromand.  These are various types of sites which find useful, and I’m hoping that all of my readers and clients will find helpful as well.  So why should you be using something similar on your site, and what’s a good way to get a  good list going?

There are multiple benefits to having a good blogroll on your site. One is that is makes your site ‘Stickier’, as people will come to your site due to it’s additional resources. This can also be a good resource for you, as you have a list of resources that you can always refer too, and get feedback on.

Here are some ideas for types of sites you might want to look for, and use as categories:

Blogs

This is a pretty obvious one. It’s always interesting  to read what some of fellow bloggers are talking about, and it’s a good place to use for link exchanges, or even for selling links (If you’re into that kind of thing)

Forums

Forums are another good choice, especially if your site doesn’t have a forum. It’s best to choose forums that you are involved in, and that you know have high quality content. Remember that putting these links on your site you are sticking your neck out there for these sites. For example, I didn’t put every forum I’ve ever used, because some have an extremely low quality. I won’t name names, but the site might rhyme with PigitalDoint.

Other Resource Sites

any site that you constantly refer to or find handy. These surely exist in any niche. Programmers need open source code, Car sites need blue book listings, etc.  I wouldn’t waste space with things that are very commonly known in your niche, and can be very easily found. For example, I don’t have a link to WordPress, because I figure most people who would know what I meant when I said ‘Wordpress’ would know how to find it.
