Examining a Blog Redesign II
MAs you may have noticed, This blog recently underwent another facelift. It’s still a work in progress, but I figured I would go into a little detail about the changes, and why I made them.
The New Color Scheme
You can see the palette on colourlovers here: Modern King. I decided I wanted a more striking color scheme, and I thought it would be a fun challenge to try to build something around purple, as it is so seldomly used. I think it gives this blog a bit more ‘pop’, even through it does make me look slightly like an LSU fan. >:(
The Footer
I made the footer widgetized, and moved the “bonus navigation” down to it. I didn’t really like how it looked in the sidebar, and footers like this are getting more and more popular, so I figured I’d give it a shot.
New Sidebar Widgets
The footer opened up a lot of sidebar real estate, so I figured I would find some good uses for it:
- “Connect” - Links to my various social profiles. Trying to be more “web 2.0″ish
- “Adsense Challenge” - Tracking my progress of trying to build up a site that can make $100 off of Adsense in a month. As you can see, still a lot of work to be done.
- “Project Updates” - This is from an RSS feed From TweetLater , which is a really cool feature of theirs. It acts as a private Twitter feed. This way, I can keep this information on my site, and not overload my twitter feed.
Less is More
I changed some of the line spacing, and reduced the number of posts on the main page to make the site a little more compact and easier to navigate.
What else is coming?
To be honest, I’m not too sure. I’d like to redo the title image, but I haven’t really had any good ideas. I’m also probably going to be revamping the portfolio page somewhat.
I still have a lot of content mapped out on the to-do list, Which will all probably get up around Christmas Break. (I’m done with this semester on December 16th), along with a lot of other exciting projects I have waiting in the wings.
