You Got the Bookmark Part, now Get the Social Part
We see social bookmarking sites, like Digg, Reddit, and Stumbleupon, as a way to market our sites and drive traffic. But so many people will go in, drop a lot of submissions to a lot of different sites, and forget about it. They cross their fingers, hoping to make the front page. Like anything else, getting popular on social sites takes a lot of work.
These sites are built around communities, and to be effective you have to be a part of that community. On Digg, for example, if you don’t have anyone on your friends’ list, your not going to get that many diggs, no matter how good your content is. Working on getting a lot of diggs is important, because Digg uses an algorithim that rewards people for their past success. Go friend people who have dugg your submissions, or whose submissions you have duggs. Comment more. Use the shout feature. As you get to know more people, you’ll have more eyes on each new submission you make, and have a better chance of getting that front page glory.
